OUR 4 RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL COMMITMENTS

My husband and I created Villa Tayrona after a decade working in a non-profit sector with an organization called Human Connections. My time with Human Connections taught me about Responsible Tourism, which is the idea that carefully planned tourism can be a tool to strengthen a community. As such, we were very intentional about the way in which we developed the concept for Villa Tayrona. We are not an all-inclusive hotel. The following commitments make Villa Tayrona a space responsible travelers feel good about:

Mexico First

decorations, furniture, art and supplies are made by Mexican hands. At Villa Tayrona, we are careful consumers, seeking to purchase quality Mexican products so as to support our country’s artisans and so that our guests can learn about the breadth of Mexican craftsmanship.

Environment

we are working to employ technologies that minimize our footprint, such as solar panels, biodegradable cleaning supplies, and a recycling system.

Community

we encourage our guests to leave our property and explore Bucerias. We intentionally do not operate as an all-inclusive because we hope our guests will become patrons at our neighbors’ businesses, too. Our Guidebook includes detailed local recommendations.

Ethical Employment

our staff is deeply appreciated, fairly paid, and encouraged to seek work-life balance.
