Planning a Wedding at Villa Tayrona

Planning a Wedding at Villa Tayrona in Bucerías, Mexico

We welcome couples who wish to get married right on our property. There is no additional fee for doing so – having you tie the knot on-site is an honor we are grateful to celebrate with you.  Here are the things to consider when planning a microwedding at Villa Tayrona:

  • The villa sleeps up to 24 people.
  • The maximum number of people allowed at the villa for events are 70 people in total, including the guests staying there and any visitors.
  • The terrace has space for sit-down dining for up to 25 people. For larger events, it is possible to rent furniture for sit-down dining around the pool.
  • When guests who are not staying at the villa use our space, there is a charge of $400 pesos per outside guest (this is considered a “visitor day pass”). So, for example, if your friends rent an Airbnb down the road and come over for the wedding reception, they would each be charged $400 pesos. This day pass fee is already included in the wedding packages.
  • For events with more than 25 guests, it is mandatory to hire cleaning services for the duration of the event.
  • For events with more than 25 guests and where food or alcohol will be served, it’s mandatory to work with our chef and/or bartender. They know our space best and can help avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
  • You are, of course, responsible for any damages incurred by your guests and visitors.

Option 1: Wedding Packages

We are in the midst of developing wedding packages for those tying the knot at Tayrona. These will be posted here by May 2026.

Option 2: Villa Tayrona for a Casual, DIY Wedding

  • You can choose from our family-style menu or Special Events menu.
  • Bring your own decor.
  • If your wedding is of 25 or fewer guests, you are welcome to use the tables in our terrace and our dinnerware. If it’s larger, you will need to plan furniture and dinnerware rental.
  • If your wedding is of more than 25 guests, please see notes the first section about the day pass fees, the cleaning required, and the requirement to hire our chef and a bar package.
  • If you choose this DIY option, please keep in mind that wedding planning services are not included. We ask that you book your own wedding-specific service providers (e.g. wedding planner, make-up artists, florist, photographer, etc.). We can, however, help with general services that support your stay. For example, count on us to help you set up chef services, transportation, massages – the kind of services we would offer if this were simply a group getaway.

Option 3: Villa Tayrona as accommodations for wedding party

Many of the couples who rent Villa Tayrona to celebrate a wedding in Mexico use our space to host the members of their wedding party but rent a separate venue for the wedding itself.  This approach creates a relaxed, elevated experience that turns your wedding into a multi-day celebration with those who matter most.

There are some lovely venues between Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita.  In all cases, I would definitely recommend working with a wedding planner to oversee the logistics.

Here are the places where guests we’ve hosted have gotten married:

  • The beach! You can get married at the beach right in Bucerías or at more private ones a drive away. Since permits are advised, and since the logistics of chairs and equipment can get complicated, we recommend setting this up via a wedding planner.
  • Eventos Palmeiras – events garden near the villa.
  • Las Caletas  – all-inclusive, packaged wedding experience.
  • Martoca Beach Garden – expensive but beautiful wedding venue a close drive away. They have their own wedding planners and service providers.
  • Karen’s Place Restaurant – Restaurant at the beach near Tayrona. Karen does not prefer to plan the weddings and might not help with the permit process, so it’s best to go through a wedding planner.
  • Sukha Beach House – This is a very casual option and again, best to go through a wedding planner.

One of the perks of a destination wedding? Turning it into a vacation! Villa Tayrona is ideal for hosting a welcome dinner, post-wedding brunch, or even a poolside cocktail party.

Other Suggestions for your Microwedding

  1. Use locally grown, tropical flowers for tabletop decorations so that they match with the flowers we have throughout our gardens and rooms. We love working with the florist Adela, who grows her own flowers. You can contact her in English, Spanish or Spanglish via Whatsapp at +52-322-174-8644.
  2. Organize chef services at key stages. We would recommend working with Chef Fer to host, at a minimum, a Welcome Dinner on arrival day and the after-wedding brunch.
  3. Unless you work with a professional decorator, sourcing elaborate decorations in Mexico tends to be more expensive and confusing than ordering them at home. We have some basics – like vases and table simple runners – but if you need specialized decor, bring it with you.
  4. Many couples ask if they can ship items to us ahead of time. We don’t recommend doing so, as packages can get stuck in customs and private couriers are very expensive. Instead, simply budget for an extra checked bag and bring your items with you.
  5. Use Whatsapp to connect with local vendors. If you don’t have the app yet, definitely download it before you come.
