Elly and her husband built Villa Tayrona from the ground up in 2020 after a decade working in responsible tourism locally. Now, Elly is your hands-on host, here to help with all aspects of travel planning and ready to pamper you once you arrive.
Alex, your houseman & bartender, organizes activities, mixes drinks, serves food – whatever you need! Alex works 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. See our FAQ section for details about his bartending and shopping services. Our reviews all mention Alex by name, and for good reason: there is no one like him.
Chef Fernando and his team are available to prepare the meals of your choosing. We want our guests to experience local restaurants – and for our staff to have healthy work-life balance – and so the private chef services are charged separately (per guest per meal) as opposed to the all-inclusive model.
We are just 7 blocks away from the beach. It takes less than 10 minutes to walk there. This walk may be tricky for small children or people with mobility restrictions, as there is a steep hill. If you prefer, we can easily arrange cabs for you, which cost about $3 USD each.
Leaving a tip for our team is always at your discretion and is contingent upon the service you received. As a reference point, most of our groups tip our house staff about $150-200 pesos per guest per night. We provide envelopes for gratuity at the end of your stay.
Please note that gratuity for the chef’s team is separate consideration and is generally about 15% of the food services total. We will give you an envelope for her team at the end of your stay too.
Gratuity left in cash, preferably in MXN, is ideal.
Alex is our houseman and bartender. He works 30 hours a week over 5 consecutive days (about 6 hours a day). He adjusts his schedule to make sense for the group. Alex mixes the drink ingredients that you buy. You can also give him a shopping list (before your arrival or during your stay) and he can go to the store to purchase the drinks on your behalf. He will provide you the receipts for reimbursement in MXN pesos. Please note that for major grocery store runs (long shopping lists), we charge a fee of $500 pesos to cover time and gasoline. There is no charge for Alex’s quick runs to the local “tienditas.”
We’d recommend contracting transportation with the company Superior Tours. Round-trip transport in a Mercedes Sprinter costs about $225USD for groups of up to 17 people (less for smaller groups). If interested, you can arrange the service with them directly and ahead of time via email: info@superiortoursvallarta.com. If your group members’ flights arrive at very different times, we’d recommend taking airport taxis, which are safe and readily available. It will cost about US$40 for a 4-passenger taxi to Villa Tayrona.
We do not typically rent the rooms individually, as this is a space designed for large groups. That said, if we have last-minute vacancy, we sometimes open up the individual rooms for rent via Airbnb. We only do this a couple of times a year.
We bought the empty plot of land in 2018 and spent two years creating Villa Tayrona from scratch. We opened on February 15th, 2020 – not the best timing! It’s been a beautiful journey nonetheless.
Absolutely! It is an honor for us to welcome weddings at Villa Tayrona.
We have space for up to 24 overnight guests at Villa Tayrona. For events, we can fit up to 35 people on-site, though our dining terrace only has seating space for 26 people.
No. We suggest budgeting $150 pesos per night per guest for gratuity to our staff. Beyond this expense, there are no additional accommodation-related charges for regular stays. Of course, you should budget for any services (e.g. chef services, grocery shopping, massages, yoga classes, etc.) or excursions that you organize. If you break our house rules about smoking or maximum capacity, fines may apply. Please see our Terms and Conditions page for more details.
Chef Patricia charges per person, per meal. Download the Chef Services PDF here for all of the details about her services.
