Planning a Wedding at Villa Tayrona

You’re drawn to a destination wedding for one reason: to share an extended, once-in-a-lifetime travel experience with the people you love most. You’re looking for a unique setting—far from a cookie-cutter resort wedding. You want it to feel effortless, without the stress of managing every detail, and have your guests’ budgets in mind. If that resonates, Villa Tayrona may be the perfect place to bring it all together.

The villa accommodates up to 24 guests overnight and welcomes up to 75 guests for your celebration—creating an atmosphere that is both intimate and curated. Pick from 3 different options to celebrate your destination wedding at Villa Tayrona:

  1. Use the villa as your wedding venue and book a Wedding Package for all logistics to be handled.
  2. Use the villa as your venue but DIY your own wedding experience.
  3. Stay at the villa during your wedding week but have your ceremony and reception at a separate venue.
Then, decide how to share your wedding expense with your guests using the guidance below.

OPTION 1: WEDDING PACKAGES

Villa Tayrona’s Wedding Packages are designed to take the stress out of planning your destination wedding. Each package thoughtfully combines the essential elements of a beautifully executed celebration, including furniture rentals, decor, gourmet dining options, bar service, and on-site coordination—all curated within the villa’s lush setting. Packages begin at $2,720 MXN per person and offer a refined, all-in-one approach to celebrating with ease.

OPTION 2: CASUAL, DIY WEDDING

We welcome couples who wish to get married right on our property and envision a more casual experience.  Booking a Wedding Package is not mandatory and we don’t charge a site fee for DIY weddings.  If you’re going this route, here are some things to consider:
  • For events with more than 25 guests and where food and alcohol will be served, it’s mandatory to work with our chef and bartender. They know our space best and can help avoid unnecessary wear and tear. Outside caterers are not permitted. You can choose from our family-style menu or Special Events menu.
  • Bring your own decor.
  • If your wedding is of 25 or fewer guests, you are welcome to use the tables in our terrace and our dinnerware. If it’s larger, you will need to plan furniture and dinnerware rental.
  • If you choose this DIY option, please keep in mind that wedding planning services are not included. We ask that you book your own wedding-specific service providers (e.g. wedding planner, make-up artists, florist, photographer, etc.). We can, however, help with general services that support your stay. For example, count on us to help you set up chef services, transportation, massages – the kind of services we would offer if this were simply a group getaway.
  • When guests who are not staying at the villa use our space, there is a charge of $400 pesos per day per outside guest. So, for example, if your friends rent an Airbnb down the road and come over for the wedding reception, they would each be charged $400 pesos. (This fee is already included in the Wedding Packages.)
  • For events with more than 25 guests, it is mandatory to hire cleaning services for the duration of the event.

OPTION 3: WEDDING PARTY ACCOMMODATIONS

Many of the couples who rent Villa Tayrona to celebrate a wedding in Mexico use our space to host the members of their wedding party but rent a separate venue for the wedding itself.  This approach creates a relaxed, elevated experience that turns your wedding into a multi-day celebration with those who matter most.

There are some lovely venues between Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita.  In all cases, we recommend working with a wedding planner to oversee the logistics. Here are the places where guests we’ve hosted have gotten married:

  • Local beaches. Since permits are advised, and since the logistics of chairs and equipment can get complicated, we recommend setting this up via a wedding planner.
  • Eventos Palmeiras – events garden near the villa.
  • Las Caletas  – all-inclusive, packaged wedding experience.
  • Martoca Beach Garden – expensive but beautiful wedding venue a close drive away. They have their own wedding planners and service providers.
  • Karen’s Place Restaurant – Restaurant at the beach near Tayrona. Karen does not prefer to plan the weddings and might not help with the permit process, so it’s best to go through a wedding planner.
  • Sukha Beach House – This is a very casual option and again, best to go through a wedding planner.

One of the perks of a destination wedding? Turning it into a vacation! Villa Tayrona is ideal for hosting a welcome dinner, post-wedding brunch, or even a poolside cocktail party.

Sharing the Wedding Expense

The villa reservation is under your name, and you’ll handle payments to the villa and service providers—but you don’t need to foot the whole bill. Most couples ask the invitees who are staying at the villa to contribute their share of accommodations, food and beverages, and the services you plan for the whole group. The couple typically covers add-ons (such as florals or photography), as well as the wedding package costs for any guests not staying at the villa.

  1. Pick your dates by checking availability here
  2. Pick one of the three options above.
  3. Determine how many of your guests will stay at the villa (maximum is 24)
  4. Determine approximately how many people will attend your wedding (maximum 75 in total)
  5. Now, download this spreadsheet for guidance on splitting the villa and the wedding package costs with the guests who will be staying at the villa.
